Is Cabinet Refacing Right for You? Answer These 5 Questions to Find out

We’re in the business of cabinet refacing but often homeowners want to change out their kitchen faucet too. We are often asked what to look for in a quality faucet, fortunately today there are a lot of great options at various price levels.

How Do You Choose the Right Kitchen Faucet?

The kitchen faucet is arguably the most frequently used item in the kitchen, so you need to choose one that will stand up to daily chores. But how do you choose the right kitchen faucet? It’s a good idea not to cheap out on a low-quality product to save money. Fortunately, faucets in general are better today than they ever have been so you should (should) get reliable performance from most of them. Here are a few things to look for when shopping for a kitchen faucet:

Materials – Choose Brass

The finish you see on a faucet is not what its actually made of. The finish is applied to the raw faucet. A kitchen faucet can be made out of various materials, brass being the best, and most expensive, option.

The Valve – Ceramic Disc

Ceramic disc valves are very durable and reliable and easy to replace.

Look for faucets that are seamless and buffed to a smooth finish. The lever should move easily and effortlessly.

Chrome, black, brushed nickel, oil rubbed bronze… there are a lot of options. Finishes are created in several ways including anodized aluminium (which you much care for carefully), chrome, and powder coating. Oil Rubbed bronze finishes are powder coated.

For true performance, try PVD products. Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) uses a state-of-the-art process that bonds the finish to the faucet, creating a super-hard surface that is by far the most durable available today. Products with a PVD finish will not corrode, discolor, or tarnish, even high-wear-and-tear items like handles or pop-up drains.

That’s a quick primer on how to choose a kitchen faucet. I recommend visiting a local showroom like Ferguson or Water and Lily to get more information about specific product from your local store.
